Reading comprehension is a huge focus in our classroom! We found that we were assessing our students orally but wanted an additional method of assessing and collecting evidence of our students' growth in reading comprehension. This book covers the five basic strategies appropriate for teaching reading comprehension in Kindergarten and First grade:  Retelling, Making Connections, Fiction and Non-Fiction, Visualizing, and Questioning.  The texts chosen for each lesson lend themselves to the teaching of each strategy and are well known stories found in most classrooms.  Reading Comprehension Rocks! is a valuable resource that provides educators with developmental and open-ended assessments to help guide instruction and assess reading comprehension.
